Ernex launches its largest real-time
electronic gift certificate program with 600 RadioShack Canada locations


VANCOUVER, CANADA, November 9, 2000 - Undecided Christmas shoppers can now purchase flashy electronic gift cards for the gadget-gurus in their household. Ernex ("Ernex "), a of RBC Royal Bank, today launched Ernex Gift Card for RadioShack Canada. The Gift program is launched across 600 locations in Canada and will utilize 670 of the existing RBC Royal Bank Transelect point-of-sale terminals at RadioShack stores.

Ernex Gift Card is a state-of-the-art real-time system that loads a monetary value on a magnetic-swipe card and the card's declining balance is communicated on a customer's receipt each time it is used at any of the participating RadioShack Canada locations nationwide. RadioShack will be offering its line of gift cards in denominations of, $25, $50 and $100. This card program will provide RadioShack with tangible benefits through increases in gift card sales and ease of administration.

The benefits are largely due to the functionality of Ernex's real-time marketing system. When a customer purchases a RadioShack card, the card requires activation through the secure Ernex System and the card number is verified to be legitimate. Gift card sales are also expected to increase because of the unique style of the cards.

"Ernex has simplified the process of reconciling a large-scale gift certificate program like ours through a user-friendly reporting system," says Lyndsay Walter, Director of Advertising at RadioShack Canada. "The Ernex System automatically sends us an email of our reports based on our predetermined schedule, and at any time, we can simply log-on to the secure reporting site to view our Gift sales, outstanding balances, and card damage- by location, region, or the entire country."

RadioShack will be the first merchant to run an electronic gift card program through RBC Royal Bank's point-of-sale terminal - the same device used to process debit (Interac) and credit card transactions. Now that Ernex has integrated its software into RBC Royal Bank's Transelect terminal, Ernex's real-time marketing programs can potentially be enabled across more than 100,000 Royal Bank points-of-sale across Canada.

RadioShack will be launching its electronic Gift Card program with a major marketing campaign involving in-store videos, inserts, flyers, and promotional tie-ins. In addition, RadioShack will have the opportunity to enhance its electronic Gift Card program with marketing promotions such as real-time Swipe 'N Win sweepstakes, Custom Messaging, and Custom Couponing - all enabled through the same gift cards and point-of-sale.
